A woman on the other forum asked advise on what to do, because the mother of her kids biological sibling isn't going to tell him he is adopted.
And so people leap in with support....and then another poster says they haven't told their children because nothing good can come of it. Her kids are school age. Another poster agrees and says they aren't planning to tell their kids either!!

WHY WHY WHY do people still DO this in this day and age?? For God's sake, what good can come out of NOT telling themAngry

Okay, rant over. I did post back. But I just don't understand. Poor kids.
My mood tonight is not good anyway, because DD2 is in a state right now, after a really bad week. I really needed to get this out. Thanks for listening x

oh we aren't at all posh (family history research could only turn up coal miners or ^servants of posh people). But me and my mum sound quite posh because she got a scholarship to a private grant maintained school and learned to sound posh to survive... and I copied her as it seemed to work out quite well for her.

My grandmother (still alive) who was in service in a pub and the daughter of a coal miner (yes we have lots of them) worked her way (with my grandfather) up the social chain to the heady heights of middle classness (on the surface at least). SHe is the most crashing snob but I just can't hold it against her. She really started with nothing and made everything they had by the end. She even learnt to write in an old copperplate style as a young girl because she thought it looked posher! She never had any intentions of staying working class!

(scratches head) i am a bit confused here as ive met both hester and kewcumber and your posh acents were no where to be heard......

Kewcumber · 21/11/2011 12:37

it sounded posh growing up in Llanelli Wink

DayDreamingDaisy · 21/11/2011 14:16

Thanks for making me laugh ladies ......... just read through this the diversion from topic is so funny and am Grin now, right brightened my day!

However I am Shock about folk still "hiding" the truth about their kids - thought we had well moved on from those days.

hester · 21/11/2011 22:18
Shock

Me? Not posh? Not like, posh as the Queen?

Shock Shock Shock

KristinaM · 22/11/2011 07:53

Well you were very drunk at the time......Wink

Lilka · 22/11/2011 18:38

Will have to stand alongside Kew...no posh people in my family either. At all!! I remember my grandmother being the type who would avoid all posh-looking and posh accented people she saw Shock

She would have been turning in her grave when I went to university and developed a much more 'posh' accent - you couldn't tell after a few years I had spoken any other way!

Now to derail slightly....MY IPOD LIVES!!!!!!!!!! Grin My sanity has been partially saved! Thank you so much Kristina, you are a Godsend...listening to it kept me going today

DD2 is doing better now. Getting clear signals she is feeling safer, although she's definitely not back to how she was a few weeks ago. Prolonged 'time in' is wearing me down

However I'm going to keep going with this for at least another week or longer, and I doubt things will get any better once she gets excited about christmas

And so it appears I am going to have to do most of my christmas shopping online..need to start another thread for some advice later

Glad you are surviving lilka, despite the fact that we had taken over your thread in your absenceWink

hester · 22/11/2011 21:09

Lilka, when I started university my neighbour was from Yorkshire. I couldn't understand a word she said, and vice versa. My glottal stops were such a fine specimen of Sarf London working class lyrics that I got taped in the Linguistics Lab. Within the year we were both speaking like we came from Guildford and NOW I SOUND DEAD POSH WHATEVER KRISTINA SAYS.

Anyway, great news about the iPod and so glad dd2 is responding to your input. You are such a great and dedicated mum.

KristinaM · 23/11/2011 09:35

ahem...thats because I am posh like the queen, you lot are dead common to me

no, i take that back, i am in fact posh like a BBC 1950s Tv announcer

hang on in there lilka

It translates as " bam" here.

Lilka · 23/11/2011 18:26

Slight diversion on the subject of words...

During another convesion with my American forum friends, we were talking about christmas traditions eg. advent calenders

I said that I filled the pockets with things like choc lollies, hair grips and funky rubbers (thats what they were called on the packet, and DD2 loved the little frog ones). All fine?? No, because in the US rubber does not mean something you rub out pencil with. Nope, apparently a rubber with a funky design is 'a condom you buy at the 99 cent store' Grin Oops!

I still laugh thinking about it, I was a bit embarassed!

Gurrier is a new word to me...you learn something everday hey?!

Hi all, reviving this thread to tell you all that DD and her GF got engaged this week. Two rings. Smiles all round. Cp planned for 2013 so lots of time to save up for MOB hat

Lilka · 21/12/2011 12:14

However, I do have a NEW JOB - so might actually be able to afford one!

Lilka · 21/12/2011 22:24

Congrats on your job hester!! Grin

Kristingle · 22/12/2011 09:07

Excellent new hester, congratulationsSmile

Thnaks lilka. How s pg DD?

Kristingle · 22/12/2011 09:14

Hester, please get a move on with the wedding plans. I am relyimg on you to keep me up to date with everhthing that is de riguer for a classy two bride weddig scenario. My experince in this regard is woefully limitedGrin

Lilka · 22/12/2011 11:18

She's still doing well kristina :) She has cravings for curry and pineapples now! Which is quite funny because she didn't really like pineapple at all until now (like me, I hate it). At least I know what to cook on christmas eve for her (she and SIL are coming to stay) - Pineapple curry Grin

They're going to find out what sex it is at her 20 week scan, and they already have a name shortlist. And if it's a girl her middle name will be my name Grin She's due in May

OP posts:
hester · 22/12/2011 11:48

Kristingle - I'm sorry that I'm letting you down; will try harder, I promise Grin

Lilka, that is so sweet about the name. All fingers crossed it's a girl Smile

Kristingle · 22/12/2011 20:40

Just try nit to let it happen again hester

LOL at pineapple curry. And yy, very sweet about the name. This used to be the tradition here, everyone i know of my generation has a family name for a middle name. Buut it seems to be dying out a bit now. Good for DD. Unless your name is Ethel, lilka
