You may have read in the press recently about the latest statistics
regarding the adoption system in this country: The number of children in
care finding adoptive families has reached the lowest level in 10 years, and
in spite of new guidelines issued by the government earlier this year, the
situation is not improving.

Adoption with Humanity is campaigning for changes which will be permanent
and far reaching, and will prioritise the best interests of children in
care. We are petitioning the government to set up a National Adoption
Authority to bring together all elements of the adoption system and to be
governed by a mixed representative body to ensure best practice is enforced.
We strongly believe this is the only way to fix our broken adoption system.

Please click on the following link and sign our petition:
epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/18508 (Once signed you will be
emailed with a link which you will need to click on to confirm/add your name
to the petition.)

If we get 100,000 signatures then it will be eligible for debate in the
House of Commons. It worked for Joanna Lumley and the Gurkha Justice
Campaign. And if we get 100,000 signatures then we are a big step closer to
achieving our goal: A National Adoption Authority and an improved adoption
system for the children in care in this country.

Done, something needs to change, the system at the moment seems to be letting everyone down. Sad

Signed, can't link on FB as I don't have it, but I agree wholeheartedly with your cause.
We tried (or considered) adoption around 15 years ago. The whole process was so awful we gave up and didn't proceed.

dustwhatdust · 06/10/2011 19:41

Done, but same as above, no facebook I'm afraid .

Kewcumber · 06/10/2011 23:05

I have just been forwarded this in an email from a friend. I have signed & tweeted & facebooked the link. I have friends going through this process at the moment. Terrible to think that they have to wait so long to be parents & the children have to wait so long to be loved.

ConstantVigilance · 09/10/2011 10:57

I've signed. I hope you get all the signatures you need

Gigondas · 09/10/2011 11:05

Done

Sorry but I'm not clear what a national adoption authority will achieve. This is a complex system with the guardians and court systems being a major problem.

Also the impact of adoption breakdown on children is catastrophic. I would like to know more as to how you see the adoption authority improving the system. I'd be happy to sign up to something that did make it better but we need to ensure we reduce bureaucracy not add to it further.
