USS Pension - inflation linking q

Hi all,

I left my job in HE a few years ago, in 2018, but accrued a fair bit in the DB part of my USS pension previously.

I understand the DB entitlement is linked to inflation, however on the online portal the amount mine is worth has not shifted since I left the scheme. I would have expected the inflationary adjustment to be reflected there.

Does anyone have any insights as to why it’s remained static? Is the inflationary aspect only calculated at the point where you actually take the pension? (still a long way off for me!)

I asked chatgtp because I have a different pension that looks like this:

When you leave the about:blank Universities Superannuation Scheme, your defined benefit (DB) pension is preserved. It does continue to increase with inflation, but the online portal usually shows your pension in “today’s money at date of leaving”, not the revalued amount year by year.

In other words, the portal figure is often a frozen reference amount, not a live, inflation-updated value.

Ah okay - thank you for doing that, that’s very kind! fingers crossed that’s it. I did send them a message asking, which they said they’d respond to in 5 days but it’s been 2 weeks now and nothing.
