I wonder if this story is as bad as it looks? Both Unis and local authority where I've worked checked qualifications.

Seems similar to "Professor" Deborah Boyd, who used that title as a member of NI Tribunal panels yet seemed to only have a visiting professorship from years ago with no academic qualifications beyond O-Levels.

My PhD was such a slog that I get rather annoyed at this sort of thing!

When I got my lectureship I think I had to produce my PhD certificate. I was going to be working in the department that I got it from, with my supervisors as colleagues.

She didn't just make a 'mistake' on her CV, she publicly claimed she'd completed her doctorate in various talks, like this one to the Open University (go to 1.22) Pretty shameless for someone who is an education specialist and Pro Chancellor of Surrey University.

She was very confident she wouldn't be challenged. Rightly, as it turned out! Until the Sunday Times apparently went through the backgrounds of those receiving honours with a fine tooth comb. What a disappointing and depressing story.
