Pre-publication servers: experiences with how long paper review takes

I am desperate to have a paper published on a pre-publication server - I need it 'out there' for strategic reasons. I initially submitted it to SAGE Advance. There was no movement on having it approved, and the actual submission to a peer-reviewed Sage journal was desk-rejected. I withdrew the paper from Advance.

I am now planning to resubmit the paper for peer-review to a journal within an Elsevier Group (will do that tomorrow). They allow pre-publication and suggested the SSRN pre-publication service. Submitted the paper there last week and again, no movement on having it approved. Argh - any experiences on how long this might take?

there are lots of preprint services available - I would avoid any run by a big publisher like SAGE or Elsevier and go for one from this list

approvals used to take 24 hrs but now are a bit slower because so much junk is submitted. But send the paper in to whichever service is most appropriate to your field.
