Dreading going back...anyone else?

Been a lecturer a long time. Post covid and brexit it's got progressively exhausting...adding work on to teaching staff to avoid hiring new staff basically.
Combined with very needy, immature students (not their fault, covid had huge impact on them, as well as social media constant bad news)
Summer has not restored any energy.
Do you feel the same?

Yes! This is my 21st year of lecturing and im dreading it. We start in a few weeks. We have had huge redundancies and my teaching load will be double from last year. I have revisions to complete for a book manuscript. It’s going to have to be sent off before the start of teaching. Otherwise it will be next summer before I’ll be able to do it. I’m finding it hard to have the motivation.

I’ve been an academic for 22 years now. However in a professional/vocational discipline that has multiple in year admissions so my summer gets only very slightly quieter than the rest of the year. Lots of people have gone/going via voluntary severance and just jumping ship so not looking forward to the Autumn term. Apparently all we need to do to address this is …work smarter/learn to prioritise/manage student expectations

I’ve now come to associate hearing that the new series of “Bake Off” is starting with the dread of another academic year starting. Hmm

Feeling drained at the thought of it. We've already had email communications about high needs students with fewer staff to deliver. The students need the support but there is no resourcing beyond "good will to provide that support.
