Presentation for interview - slides?

I've been invited to an interview online next week and have to prepare a short presentation.

Would you prepare slides? Ordinarily I would but it's a relatively short presentation and if I have slides then they won't really see me. It's just to sample my teaching skills.

Is it face to face or virtual? Either way, yes I would prepare slides.

It's virtual which is why I'm conscious if I show slides they are only really seeing the slides

Won't they see you as well if it's via Teams?

If it is a teaching session (micro version) then be represented of what you normally do and use them.

I think you're right.

I'm not sure as I don't use Teams for training usually. I think maybe you see the slides and a smaller picture of the speaker.

I'd prepare slides. They may want to assess the quality of your teaching resources as well as what you do and say.

It's quite a basic presentation (they have asked for) so the slides will be fairly basic to be honest but it would be easier to follow with slides.

Any interviews I’ve been on a panel for virtually or in person have required a presentation that has included a PowerPoint

clamshell24 · 03/08/2025 22:35

Yes. And practice sharing the slides on Teams. Don't be that person who says 'oh I haven't done this before'!

Cornishmumofone · 03/08/2025 23:27

Also, make sure you check the accessibility of your slides… I’d expect anyone who is teaching to ensure their digital resources are WCAG 2.1AA compliant

LegalllyBrunette · 04/08/2025 09:31

Thanks everyone.

I got the email through on Friday and it says you may prepare a PowerPoint presentation but you don't need to.

I will definitely be testing them before the interview.

their digital resources are WCAG 2.1AA compliant

I don't know what this means! I'm guessing it means they are readable for people with vision problems etc?

Prepare slides. I once made the mistake of going to an interview where they had said you could use the flip chart. I didn’t but realised half way through that it was a big mistake.

I'm going to prepare slides. It's online and short which is why I often about doing it without slides but I've decided I will.

I don't think I'd go for a flip chart!
