Thousands of staff have been lost under severance schemes at almost all universities in post covid. There isn’t the money but it’s a long series of events going back decades. Blair started the real issues, to the public it seems successful but without the actual policies or money behind there has been a negative knock on effect. It’s unintended consequences.

Even RG Universities as beloved by MN are shedding staff, 3 of my ex colleagues took it last year from 2 different RG Universities. In total amongst DH and mines friendship group 5 people have taken VS in 3 different Universities. An ex colleague of DH from Cambridge was persuaded to withdraw his request at an RG University. My DH has taken VS 2 months ago, he was a Head of dept. DH and our friends had approx 170 years experience working in higher education between them. All minimum 30 years, youngest 56 and oldest 61.
