Asking to attend a speed awareness course during PPA time

Unfortunately I got caught speeding and have been offered a speed awareness course. The only course I could find runs on an afternoon on a day I have PPA. Is it reasonable to ask to be released to complete the course? I am quite embarrassed about being caught speeding and would rather not tell school if
at all possible!

Just tell the school you have a hospital appointment or something then?

LIZS · 01/10/2024 17:38

They should offer weekend sessions but they get more booked up ahead

MounjaroNewb · 01/10/2024 17:56

The offer online evening ones near me, is this not an option for you?

Justkeepingplatesspinning · 01/10/2024 19:45

With you mentioning PPA I guess you're in a school. Do they not have any of the courses in the school holidays?

motherdaughter · 01/10/2024 20:00

You could take the points?

Angelik · 01/10/2024 20:04

Can't you make up the time?

Querty123456 · 01/10/2024 21:22

Annoyingly no evening or weekend ones near me - and yes I’m a teacher.

They usually offer them online.

We are allowed to take our PPA off site- can you just leave? it's your time.

Pieandchips999 · 01/10/2024 21:40

You don't have to do the course in the area you were caught in you can do it anywhere. I did one in the West Midlands where someone attended online from Devon. There were evenings and weekends. It should explain it somewhere in the material or you can ring and ask

Querty123456 · 01/10/2024 22:08

Yes think I’ll phone tomorrow and ask if it’s possible to do one at another time

If you have your own classroom, you could lock yourself in and use earplugs to complete the course (use your phone if possible). If that's not possible, tell the school that you have to leave early because you have an appointment with your gp, or ring in sick.

The speed courses are a total waste of time...

Good luck.

You can do them online - I also work in a school and did mine in half term.

I've just had the letter through the post to book one. You have 4 months to do it in so just book it in for during the school holidays - October half term or Christmas break
