Fixed term contract - what happens when you take sick leave

I am on a fixed term contract on a research role. This is my fellowship, hosted at my current Univ. But the funding is for a fixed term

I had to take sick leave for a few weeks. Signed off by GP and all paperwork submitted etc.

Do those weeks get added to my contract , i.e., does my contract extended by those weeks?

HR think no !

Anyone been in a similar situation or knows more?

TIA

(Long time MNer, Had to name change, for obvious reasons)

I think HR are right. If you were paid whilst on sick leave then the money has been spent and there won’t be money to pay you for any additional weeks, so they can’t extend your contract.

Agree with PP - think your HR are correct.
