Would you expect to be paid for this?

I was asked to sit on an interview panel for a senior post at another university as an external academic. The job talks take up one whole day and interviews another. I agreed to do it - but I’ve just realised that no one has mentioned any honorarium or pay. Would you expect to be paid for this, or is it all just more bloody endless “citizenship”?

Expenses covered. Not paid.
It is reciprocal across Universities

Was going to say the same. Almost certainly no money - but an IOU for when you need an external examiner or panel member

Ugh! As I expected really. The number of things like this I do for no additional reward is getting truly ridiculous. I need to start saying “no” a lot more often.

It does seem odd though - examining a PhD externally is paid, as is acting as external examiner for a UG or MA programme. But not acting as external interviewer. I wonder why.

Ask the HR dept about how to claim the pay. They may well not pay other than expenses, but you never know.
I acted as an external the other year for a similar thing and only found out long after that I should have sent them an external casual pay form to get paid. It's poor practice that they didn't tell me in the first place.
