So I'm applying for an academic post and one of the questions is about professional leadership. Have worked a long time ago in academia but there was none of this talk about professional leadership roles (I think it may have been called 'admin' back then).

Anyone any ideas what it means these days? What on earth can I put if I haven't evidenced this recently?

have you lead a research team? I worked in multi institutional teams that presented workshops/ papers at conferences. Are you a mentor to a junior colleague? I was also Chair of Governors at a large Primary school. I chaired committees and lead the team organising to Annual Learning Conference. I’m just trying to give you ideas of how you might have been a leader.

Leadership can take different forms. Leadership definitely isn’t admin. However, don’t worry if you don’t satisfy all the criteria. Probably no one else does.

what have you been doing recently? anything where you have been managing / instructing other people in what to do would count - managing a team / organising an event etc. Also anything where you have taken the initiative to make something happen - put together a proposal, organise a group to do something. and anything that might be useful to running a university, so chairing a committee or group or setting up a new project or something like that.
