Managerial thank you emails

I've just received several syrupy thank you emails from the various layers of management at my place that at great length tell us all how very grateful they are for our hard work and what absolutely fabulous people we are

I'm never sure whether to think aww that's nice or to feel slightly nauseous at the tone and dissonance to my current lived experience as an academic

And of course a handful will reply all to acknowledge...

The end of term leadership emails! I’m similarly torn. It feels like an attempt to shore up belief in the vocation in case the holiday period results in reprogramming while out of the cult.

I can’t see the reply alls as anything but considered public sycophancy.

I normally say I can't spend a thank you.

I'm in Professional Services though.

I'm completely cynical about these emails. My current VC wouldn't know who I was if she feel over me. And I bring in huge amounts of research income in my field (not a discipline that traditionally has had a high research income).

It's pathetic isn't it. You can tell there has been a managerial directive to thank staff.

As a line manager I do thank my team, but yes, I agree company wide thank you emails can be a bit cringey.
