Literature review help

Hi academics.

Writing a literature review as part of my essay and I am seriously struggling with structuring it.

I feel like I am just making scaled down versions of the same points I’ll be making later on.

Can anyone advise me on a good formula for a literature review section?

I’m writing a ‘discuss’ essay.

How many words within your essay is this literature review section supposed to be?

paragraph by paragraph, you should

• state the aims of the paper
• outline how you will achieve them & the major topics (1-3 topics)
• review topic 1 (2-4 paragraphs)
• summary on topic 1 & why it matters to your research question
• review topic 2 (2-4 paragraphs)
• summary on topic 2 & why it matters to your research question
• etc for other topics
• explain how the past literature leads to your current hypothesis
• set out your hypothesis in broad terms
• outline your experimental design & make specific predictions
