Xmas present recommendations science/nature/history

Need some recommendations for books or games for the train for my kid for Xmas. They really like history/knowledge/science/nature. Roughly I think I am looking for a reading ability of 7 years of age. I have been to our local book shops but can't find anything that would capture interest enough. Thanks for any recommendations

The Usborne books 'Beginners Guide to Law / Money / etc' are brilliant. Can be read by a 7 year old but my 14 year old still dips in & out

Also Usborne - See inside your head / See inside your body / and the rest of that series

presentindicative.com have lots of great geeky gifts, not sure what is right for that age

Otherwise there are lots of general sticker books / quiz books for train trips that you'd find in any big waterstones.

Strongly agree with this! The Politics and Economics ones are excellent too, from about 7 to at least 12
