Opting back into pension scheme

Currently on mat leave so I opted out for a few months to help me financially, which was easy with the click of an ‘opt out’ button. However to opt back in, I have to complete a form, have my employer fill out the second part, and they then send back to me to email to the pension scheme.

payroll don’t believe me and keep telling me to ‘opt in online’. There’s no way of doing this through the click of the button, it’s simply this form which I send once I and my employer have filled it out. I’ve checked twice with the pension scheme and even sent payroll a screenshot. They keep repeating that I need to opt in online then they’ll put me back in the scheme. I’ve asked four times and attached this form.

I don’t know what else to do, could I raise a grievance with HR? I just want to get this sorted so that I’m detached from work and don’t need to keep opening emails. I feel like I’m wasting time stressing when I should be enjoying my mat leave. 😥I didn’t think payroll would make it so hard to rejoin

that is very frustrating. Is there a manager in payroll that you can escalate this too? there are probably other steps before raising a grievance.

Alternatively, is there someone higher-up in your department who could advocate for you? It sounds silly, but sometimes if the HoD sends a stern email to payroll saying 'you have to sort out butterfly245's pension', then they might listen.
