Sick pay

Thinking about a move into HE from a. unrelated career. Current post affords 6 months full pay sick leave (which I had to build up over 3 years). What happens in academia? Is it the same kind of thing - I'm assuming new staff have to start from scratch again (in current role this only afforded 4 weeks full sick pay at the start).

Where I work you get 3 months full pay and 3 months at half pay during your first year of service. It then rises by a month for each year of service, up to the fourth year of service (6 months full pay, 6 months half pay).

Same at my uni as @GCAcademic

Yeah, pretty much the same - up to 6 months on full pay. It's very generous.

I think it can be because IME academics rarely take sick days - we generally only take time out for something big/serious.
