Anyone with Cambridge PhD insight?

This is probably not the right place to post but I’ll give it a go! Does anyone have any insight into the PhD application process? I’m waiting to hear if I have been successful. Everyone I know has had an offer. My application has not moved from received on the portal. Am I in for a disappointment?

I don't know specifically for Cambridge, but it is probably v similar to other RG unis like the one where I work.

PhD apps were due in early Jan and we have had 1st round interviews. The best candidates have been told if they are going forward for funding decisions. Mid-ranked candidates might be offered a place but no funding (some find funding elsewhere) and low-ranked candidates have been rejected. So our initial round of decisions are made and candidates have an idea of where they stand.

Did your application have a named person as the potential supervisor and have you been in contact with that person? if so, contact them again to ask about timelines.

Or did you apply to a PhD program with many possible supervisors? decision timelines for PhD programs may be different, but there is probably an admin person for that program who you can contact with questions.

Thank you. I have tried calling/emailing my supervisor but no response so far. I think it’s probably time to come up with a plan b 😞

Have you contacted the Admin member of staff responsible for admissions? S/he might be able to update you. It could be that the proposed supervisor is ill. Responses in the next three weeks might also be delayed by strike action.

Thanks Ghislaine. I now know I’ll not be doing my PhD at Cambridge. I haven’t been officially rejected but can now only be offered a self-funded place 😢 Now to find a plan B

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. I imagine you have, but have you looked into BFWG funding? Here is the list of 2020 awardees: bfwg.org.uk/bfwg2/2020-scholarship-awards-for-women-doctoral-students/
