Any COVID researchers around? Isolation question

DS (14) has tested positive for COVID last week. He is staying in his room to protect the rest of the family but I think this is hard on him.
I've been looking for studies on how long COVID is contagious for and found some that seem to say that after the first three or five days after testing positive contagiousness reduces -- but the studies are old. I'm interested if he could come out of his room, not suggesting he'd leave the house before the 10 days are up!!

Does anyone know of more recent studies on this? Would the newer variants likely behave the same?

Not asking for medical advice, just links to research please 🙂
