Our university has just sent the edict that we have to teach online again. I'm so depressed! It has been so nice connecting with students again. The feeling that we might end up online long term makes me want to quit the job.
What's happening at your university?

We've already been told to expect business as usual - all f2f activity will continue until the end of term.

I'm enjoying being back on campus and don't particularly want to wfh again. However we've all been genuinely pissed off about the huge number of our students not wearing face masks despite all the messaging around campus. I'm also aware from conversations I've had with worried students that many aren't regularly testing.

I'm assuming the latest guidance won't change any of that as it doesn't look like face masks in educational settings have yet been made mandatory Hmm

That's really interesting. Our uni is completely the other way. Lots of lectures had remained online anyway (lazy recordings from some departments) Masks everywhere and 90% plus wear them. We have a lot of Chinese students so maybe it's more culturally accepted because if that. I don't know about testing, it's supposed to be weekly PCR or twice a week lfd. I've been doing mine although do sometimes forget the mid week one.

We’re teaching in person the end and we don’t finish until the 17th. I might move mine online unofficially. I’ve already had emails from students saying they’re going home this weekend. Why would you take the risk of being stuck in halls by yourself on Christmas Day?

Oh and while students are required to wear masks hardly any do. Maybe that’ll change - I’ve been teaching online for the last week or so because my family has Covid.

We're currently teaching partly online and partly f2f, and had planned to move to entirely f2f from January. After the latest news, we've just been told that's still the plan. I'm slightly surprised but basically pleased.

Same situation at my uni (in Scotland). Really hope f2f teaching continues next semester.

We've been told this evening that we are all staying f2f till term ends on the 17th.

I'm quite relieved in a way, as switching to online with little notice and just one week to go feels a lot more work than just slogging through to the end.

But attendances have plummeted today and I suspect a lot of students will head home early to be on the safe side.

Week 10 attendances are crappy anyway so it feels like the risk/work balance is OK, and I suspect I will be doing very little actual teaching next week (for me, my students are all masked, if they weren't I'd feel less safe)
