Take 2 - Jo Phoenix

Right, so I just had a thread deleted because I think I broke the MN rules about posting fundraisers. Sorry, MNHQ. My post was about Professor Jo Phoenix, who is suing the OU. I won't post to her fundraiser but if you find her on twitter, it's her pinned tweet. Anyway, my post is about the situation as a whole so please don't delete, MNHQ.
Prof Phonenix describes being diagnosed with complex PTSD due to how she has been treated. It's really awful. I feel sick at the moment and wonder how I can carry on in this horrible profession. I am not 'out' at work but I had a male colleague bragging on email that he was pleased that nobody from our department had signed any letters in support of Kathleen Stock or there would be 'consequences'. He has also boycotted a planned invited speaker for his research group because she signed the letter and he didn't realise she was a TERF. The invite hadn't actually gone out yet so there isn't anything that can be done (and the academic in question won't even know what happened) but it still makes me so angry that he feels he has the right to do this.
Ugh, sorry for the rant but really feeling down in the dumps today.

You're not alone, @GCAndProud. In fact, I imagine you're in a silent majority. I've just listened to the Nolan Investigates series recommended on another thread and I'm hoping against hope the tide will turn. Many universities are distancing themselves from St0ne wall and its nonsense, for a start.

But as for your colleague. Disgusting.

Thank you. Yeah, it's heartening to see more and more people speaking out against it. I hope that those who have bullied and ostracised people over this will eventually be held accountable. It's a complete disgrace.

There’s a case for a sanction against your colleague on the grounds that his language (especially the use of T*) makes fora hostile workplace. Beliefs are protected under the 2010 EA.

Could you speak with HR? Ask not to be identified but record his concerning behaviour with them.

It is a difficult time to be a GC academic at the moment. But there is safety in numbers. There will be others in your university who agree with you, you just need to find a way to them. Also join the Open University GC research network and connect with others that way.

Thanks. I am feeling so deflated and upset tonight after seeing Kathleen Stock’s resignation and how my colleagues have gleefully reacted to it. I just feel like giving up to be honest. It’s so depressing.

Prof Phoenix has met her first target (hurrah!), but the forecast for costs say costs could go up another 50%
