Renegotiate salary offer

NC for this.

I've had quite an exciting week: I interviewed for a social science lectureship last week and was offered the position on Monday. Accepted the position verbally the next day, but had no luck negotiating the salary (appointed at the bottom of the pay grade).

Today I learned I've been awarded a research grant: £400,000 (fEC). About half of that will cover my salary as PI and hiring a postdoc. The remainder is for the two Co-Is (who work at different institutions), a research assistant to work with Co-I1, and research-related expenses.

I will obviously need to confirm with the funder (and current institution) that I can move my share of the grant with me to my new institution. Assuming I can take this grant with me, would I be unreasonable to use this to renegotiate my salary offer? I have already accepted the position (verbally, no paperwork signed yet) and don't want to majorly annoy my new employer, but at the same time, if I'd known about this grant last week I would certainly have brought it up in the negotiation.

I would say it was worth a punt. You can always say the news has just come through. I renegotiated my own salary after getting a major EU grant.

There is a 99% chance the grant will move with you. I've never heard of a case where it doesn't.

Yes, do ask about salary but do it soon because otherwise everything will be fixed.

Go for it, re salary negotiation. And yes, most UKRI grants can move with you.
