What can I do?

This is a weird one but I’m in a rut and don’t know what to do next.

I worked part time as a law lecturer alongside practising as a barrister for several years until my son died.

I then went full time lecturing and, in need of a focus in my life, began volunteering abroad. I’ve volunteered in schools, assisted with field work up mountains and in jungles and worked with wildlife. I’m happiest when travelling, busying myself amongst nature and wildlife.

During lockdown, my husband left me. He was the last thing keeping me tied to the UK.
Now I want to go and enjoy my life. I’d like to turn my volunteering into a job but the trouble is, my qualifications are irrelevant.

I have a full practising certificate that is only relevant to England and Wales.
I teach civil law, again largely irrelevant.
I have a degree and LLM. No phd.

What can I do?

is there a mumsnet section for lawyers? you might get more advice in a more general section.

Are law qualifications transferable to places with similar law, I'm thinking anywhere in the commonwealth where the legal system must at some point be based on the UK system?

Or can you find work as a secondary school teacher abroad?

what have you found out from your volunteering / travelling about where you would like to live?

I’m sorry to read about your travails. Like pp I wonder if another board, perhaps the general Work one, might get more useful footfall, but meanwhile it occurs to me that charities that operate abroad but under British legal jurisdiction might need in-house lawyers. a different tack is working for charitable or academic research projects in the international development arena, who might seek project managers (which might entail some retraining of course). Have you searched jobs.ac.uk?

Something like Peace Brigades International? An international environmental charity? The UN?
