Any counsellors in here? Tell me about your career

I'm thinking of retraining to be a counsellor. I've found a degree that looks very interesting. Is there any counsellors here that would be able to share there experiences? Do you enjoy your job? Would you recommend somebody to start it as a career? Any advise would be appreciated, thank you

You won't get many useful responses on this board, I'm afraid. It's for people researching and teaching in universities. If you report your post, MNHQ will be able to move it somewhere where it will get more traction.

I’m an academic who trains counsellors in degree programmes. Counselling is a good job - I would say it has been a life-changing thing for me. Training others is rewarding in a different way. Have you got specific questions about training OP?

I know this is an old post but I retrained as a counsellor (prev optometrist) and did an MA and have now just submitted my DProf (psychological trauma) and work as a school counsellor. Don’t know if this helps?
