notice period during probation

Hi, does anyone know if the 3 month notice period that universities require applies during or after probationary period? I can't find anything on the website of the university I work at and obviously I don't want to ask and reveal that I may be leaving. Just wondered what is the norm? Also how easy is it to negotiate a reduction in your notice period - e.g. 1 month instead of 3 months? (I have annual leave I could use)

At mine it was one month during probation (which was a year). I was also told at a previous job (having worked out a really miserable 3 month notice period) that they couldn't have held me to it anyway, but don't know how true that is, and risky if eg you want a reference from them in the future! If you're moving to another university job they do sometimes negotiate and agree to release early.
