Last stretch of my doctoral thesis- say something motivating please!

I'm not a 'real' academic- it's a professional doctorate and I'm in my sixth (!) year. During that time I've lived lots of life and was sure, at points, it would never be done. Now it's due end of September- four chapters down, half of the discussion to go. The end is in sight ( but so is a house move, COVID lockdown, work madness and two kids at home.

Please- any words of encouragement/ advice to get me through would be hugely appreciated! It's like being in the mafia- wish I could leave, but I'm in too deep....

I feel your pain. Two Masters assignments going on here. You're in the zone, push on through. I have massive respect for you completing your doctorate with everything else in your life.

Do you have quiet space to hide in to work?

A fellow traveller! I do actually have a clinic that I run my practice from where I can sometimes hide. But this morning I'm in the corner of the living room trying to get something done. Just focusing on boring adminny stuff like sorting out my appendices as I can't concentrate on anything more serious here. I'll go to my office tomorrow morning I think.

That sounds like a great idea. In theory I have a tiny bit of workspace hidden away. In reality it is the DC den. With a DH who works out of the house incredibly long hours, I sit in the corner of the sitting room trying to block everything out and sometimes succeeding 😬

I feel so much better knowing it's not just me! In the corner of the living room ignoring whatever nonsense is going on behind me sounds very familiar. I've grabbed a couple of hours this morning while they are upstairs reading Beanos. We'll get there :)

From your user name, is vicaring your line of work?
