Academic job security?

Anyone have a sense of what the impact will be of the current Covid situation on academic jobs? I'm lucky enough to be in a permanent post at SL level. But I have no idea how resilient the sector will be to the current situation.

I think, frankly, that those of us without permanent jobs are completely fucked for at least the next year - I can't see that universities are going to be keen on hiring extra staff for next year, especially given that the main hiring time for these in my area is May/June/July. So if you can do anything at all to help any of your colleagues on fixed-term/hourly/zero-hour contracts, please do (even if it's just bearing in mind that a lot more of them are now looking at (at best) uncertainty or (more likely, I think) the likelihood of no jobs next year).

What happened about the strike? My dh is in an academic post, not in UK, and reckons the next academic year is a write off in terms of postdocs etc.
It's grim alright.
