Gov plans to rank

Has anyone seen this in the Guardian today?
The Govrrnment is looking into ranking universities according to the earnings of their students!
This is wrong on so many levels - what on Earth possessed them to look into this?

Grad earnings are already published (LEO). It's been mooted that these will form part of the TEF for ages, so not exactly a new story from the Guardian. Given that there's been no response to Dame Shirley's review, or Sir Phillips, and the TEF does not rank unis (and LEO will be contextualised if it forms part of TEF - really important to understand this) this is very much at the bottom of a long list of things to worry about.

As an aside there's nothing to stop any of the league table providers including grad earnings now....

Well, Chris Skidmore is gone now as universities minister. I think this means we will have our fifth universities minister in the space of fifteenth months? Skidmore was holding out against some of the more damaging recommendations of Augur, so I dread to think what is coming our way.

titchy, I know, but it's yet another reason to worry, especially given the track record of cuts to the sector....

GCAcademic, yeap, it's almost as if the Government didn't quite know what they're doing... And I dread to think who''s next.

Incidentally, have you read this? It's by someone who has been working with many of the last ministers. I wonder if this reflects in any way the concerns of civil servants at the Ministry?
