Hi everyone,

I have been invited to an interview for a PhD (arts based) in January. I am extremely nervous and just wondered if anyone had any advice as to what to expect/how best to prepare? I don't have to prepare a presentation or anything, they just said the interview will last around 45 minutes.

Thank you!

Mine was a long time ago, but as I recall, it was very informal. There were two members of the department there. They wanted an idea of the aspects I intended to look at within the overall topic, what sources I planned to use (it was history) what reading I had already done and was planning to do.

Basically, I think they'll be looking to see that you have a clear idea of what you want to research and why, and how you intend to go about it. Do as much background reading as you can and be aware of the current authorities and debates on your subject, even if you haven't yet managed to read them all.

Good luck!
