Does anyone have a copy of a business continuity management system pdf that I could look at to see how to write one myself ?
Thanks in advance - I'm asking on behalf of a friend - so pasted in their question ( no idea what it means as I'm not that clever !! )

Don't have a template but what industry are they in?

BCPs will vary vastly depending on what systems/activities do.

Essentially it's a plan that details

  • if there was an emergency how would you restore service and limit/negate impact to your service users
  • it will contact key contact details for main staff who would respond to an emergency
  • it will detail the systems, suppliers, clients
  • a list of activities that need to take place and the SLAs around time to complete those activities

Thanks Lwmommy - the link just takes me to google ? I'm going to phone my friend and ask them what you mentioned. As far as I'm aware they are doing some sort of course to gain some sort of qualification in business management?!?!

As above , if I was writing a bcm for a factory it would

  1. List of key contacts snd hierarchy
  2. List ‘critical’ resources and how they might be impacted and what should happen in each case ie Power - Grid outage - switch critical systems (detailed list) to emergency power , switch off non essential systems (eg aircon) . Who notifies who (refer to contacts in1) . There might be different scenarios at night/ for different durations etc People - illness - how are rates monitored, at what level does this become critical, are resources concentrated on one area, where could you get additional staff from ? Who would authorise ? If it’s contagious or notifiable , whats the process to report and to whom.

You get the idea, its primarily emergency but is really anything that has the power to stop business, some things may be quicker than others ag strikes / floods.

Its helpful to do it in a table, as bullet points rather than a narrative. The idea is that at any time someone could pick it up and use it to help them or the nominated contacts make quick decisions that are needed to ensure continuity.
