I already have a thread about possible flexible working options as I am a carer. I did my undergrad with OU and thoroughly enjoyed it so had a look at their vacancies, band 7 modules require 9 teaching hours per week but the salary is approx £4k? How is that right? That wouldn't include hours spent marking etc surely?

Anyway any experience working with the OU would be greatly appreciated.

I am not now but was for 5 or 6 years until Sept 2016. Hours included marking and there was a lot of marking (more than in other HEIs). I did teach across a lot of modules though. I loved OU teaching. Feel free to PM me if easier Freudianslip1.

@purplepandas how did you find the salary compared to the workload? Also I don't have experience teaching (in my field) so as a complete beginner do you think I have any chance?

The salary was definitely less than at other HEIs (it was a drop) but I thought it was fine. It worked around small children so it was worth it. The marking was the killer but some modules are better than others for that. The detail needed for marking is greater than at other HEIs definitely (and I am back at a more traditional HEI now).

Teaching wise, they will be looking for experience in the field. Do you have any teaching experience at all?
