My first paper - feeling good!

I know that most people in this topic are way past the stage of publishing their first paper, but I am feeling very pleased with myself and wanted to share!

I'm on a teaching pathway at my university so don't technically have a research remit but am just about to publish my MSc work. I originally submitted to the top journal in my area and was torn to shreds by the reviewers; a very bruising process which made me wonder what the hell I was even thinking of because clearly I was an idiot who couldn't do research or write for toffee Hmm.

But have resubmitted elsewhere and got a yes last week (along with some really lovely feedback from the reviewers).

I have another couple of papers coming out later this year (not first author though) and have had a really successful conference presentation this summer as well, so I almost feel as if maybe I can do this job now!

Anyway, just wanted to get that out there Grin

Yay! How nice. Congratulations.

Congrats - no paper gave me quite as much pleasure as my very first one. Enjoy, it’s such hard work getting something to that stage, so we’ll worth celebrating!

Well done! Sounds like you are doing better than some on the research pathway! It's lovely getting your work out there and someone else reading it.

I wanted to add my congratulations. Surviving a bruising review experience is an achievement!

Some reviewers need to cop on to themselves, tbh.

I think a lot of referees agree to do it, run out of time, skim read, and bark 'needs MUCH MORE work' as a default. Many of the younger journals attract referees who actually do the job properly.

Thank you all Smile

It's odd; in a previous career I wrote for lots of different publications, but no acceptance has made me quite as happy as this one.
