what counts as a second affiliation?

I am submitting an abstract for a conference. Three of the co-authors who, to me, worked together in the same 'place', have provided four different affiliations (one provided two).
They are only slightly different, not even different departments in the same university. I am a bit Hmm but I might be wrong.

Can anyone enlighten me?

Hard to say without seeing what your co-authors put down!

If it's anything like my field, some people like to list their affiliations as Research Institute/Centre, University instead of the regular Department/School, University. Sometimes there's a funding obligation but usually it's just arbitrary branding preferences. I know one colleague who could technically use Research Centre, Division, School, University and seems to use different combinations on different papers Confused

So yeah... I'd be Hmm as well but but probably put up with it.

Thanks!
Yeah I think I will just put up with it, but it looks so weird!
