I'm a single mum to a young toddler. I work FT in academia and I'm trying to submit my thesis by end of this academic year. My employer is sympathetic and my academic colleagues are supportive but my academic post absorbs an enormous amount of time. I'm trying to write my thesis in the evenings and usually have one day a week at home to work on my Doc but I feel that I may never finish.

Does anyone have any good motivational tips?

A paragraph at a time

How do you eat an elephant? One mouthful at a time.

And so on.

Break it down into bitesize tasks- subdivided minutely if needed- and complete one each time you sit down to it. Afterwards, cross said task off the list with a triumphant red pen!

Thanks! I have just the pen :)

I'm struggling to write too (book though not thesis) and feel the toddler/job pain! Hang on in there Belle sounds like you are doing amazingly. I second the minute subdivision of tasks, and I am also using tomato timer to keep me focussed on the writing for at least 25 min. Oh dear, someone is crying though right now so that's probably it for the evening! Good luck to you!
