How normal is it for people to abandon Scrabble games?

New to playing scrabble online

So far started two games and both time the other player seems to have just given up (without making comment or forfeiting (I assume if I do this - they win the game?)

I'm not exactly what you'd call a brilliant scrabble play - in fact I fairly pants - but I had thought if i played a few games I might start improving - but is this normal behaviour to start a game and then give up?

Quite normal, I'm afraid. But they will lose if they forfeit, as will you. It's just real life intervening, I think. What's your facebook name? I'll play you. I cheat though

Buddleja · 12/06/2010 09:29

oooh tell me how to cheat!

(I need too!)

How to cheat at Scrabble

Alouiseg · 12/06/2010 09:36

I gave up mid game because my opponents were using scrabble solver!!

Tortoise · 12/06/2010 09:37

I love FB scrabble. Didn't know about that cheat site though! (Have used an anagram solver sometimes when i am getting badly beaten!)

Buddleja · 12/06/2010 09:56

Well well well

I feel disappointed that there is a cheat site - but at the same time feel very impressed that there is a person out there that created it!!

I don't like Facebook scrabble for some reason. I highly recommend ISC. www.isc.ro.

RubberDuck · 12/06/2010 13:35

I like Words with Friends on iphone and ipad - the interface is so much nicer than the Facebook ones.

Buddleja · 13/06/2010 13:31

OK so I've another question - the 24 hours has elapsed but when i just logged in it was my turn obviously everyone had come back and taken there turn - doesn't the game finish after 24 hours? Or does someone have to win or forfeit first?

RubberDuck · 13/06/2010 15:08

No, it just carries on to the end of the game. Never seen the turn timer running out have any effect whatsoever.

RubberDuck · 13/06/2010 15:08

The 24hrs is the timer for next turn, not the whole game.

BecauseImWorthIt · 13/06/2010 15:10

FB Scrabble isn't very good because it never tells you that it's your turn. If you're not constantly logged in, and checking, it's easy to forget - and then the game dies.

I play online Scrabble via the www.thepixiepit.com (or .co.uk, can't remember!), and you get an e-mail telling you it's your go.

Tortoise · 13/06/2010 16:06

I get an email from FB scrabble when it is my turn.

Buddleja · 13/06/2010 16:57

Ah right Rubber Duck - got it!!!

So the 2 min on you have 2 mins and the week one you have a week!

You might be able to adjust the email setting in FB to advise you - I've all emial notification switch off in mine

I do not understand why people cheat at online scrabble... it just seems asinine... why bother playing?

bonkerz · 30/06/2010 20:20

i also much prefer words for friends on iphone! bonkers78 is my username if anyone wants a game!
beware on FB scrabble that if you dont take your turn within the alotted time the opponant can forfeit you and they win!

UnquietDad · 20/08/2010 11:32

It happens that people just leave games for days and days - I've done it myself. Doesn't mean they have given up - they just have life to deal with. And it's doubly annoying getting into Scrabble now that the ads are there...

Tee2072 · 20/08/2010 12:12

Bonkerz, I'm sending you a game request. Tee2072, just like on here!

Tee2072 · 20/08/2010 12:14

Well, I tried, it couldn't find you!

TrinityRhino · 20/08/2010 12:17

I'm not playing with you if you cheat
