... while I was having a pedicure. It's currently feeling very very sorry for itself in the warmth of the airing cupboard.
Is there anything else I can do to try and help it recover or is it gone for good?

TIA

go to the apple store?

OnlyWantsOne · 29/04/2010 19:19

... lol I thought this was a piss take

Insurance?

Have you taken it all apart?

badgermonkey · 29/04/2010 19:26

Don't turn it on! I left my iPod nano in a pot of rice for four days after it got put through the wash and it was fine, but I resisted the temptation to turn it on "just to try" because it can short circuit in and fry it.

BendyBob · 29/04/2010 19:31

Oh dear..Dh's fell out of his shirt pocket when he leaned over dd's bath to kiss her goodbye. I'm afraid it was 'new phone time' for him.

PandaG · 29/04/2010 19:33

2 days in airing cupboard could well sort it out.

Lotkinsgonecurly · 29/04/2010 19:37

I went swimming with my phone in the top of my swimming costume , it didn't work again.

LowLevelWhinging · 29/04/2010 19:38

Yes, I've heard about the bag of rice thing too - the rice absorbs the moisture or something. Worth a try!

OnlyWantsOne · 29/04/2010 19:58

yes - rice will suck the water out

Rockbird · 29/04/2010 20:06

Definitely rice

mckenzie · 29/04/2010 20:47

thanks guys for all the tips. it was still on when it happened and it seems to have turned itself off now so i'll put in a bag with some rice and back in the airing cupboard and resist the temptation to touch it and see what happens after the weekend perhaps. I'm gutted though as I have just started really using the calendar function and so all my appointments etc are in the phone and nowhere else!!

Hope you get it working again.

I don't think there's any point taking it to the Apple store if it doesn't work I'm afraid. I've heard from others the firs thing they do is look down the headphone jack hole thing, there's an indicator in there that goes red if it's been in contact with water. If it's red, they won't do anything.

Fingers crossed for you.

NotSoRampantRabbit · 30/04/2010 20:22

10 month old dd used my iphone to stir a glass of water this morning.

It is sitting in rice.

TreeTrunkThighs · 30/04/2010 20:25

Mine went down the toilet a couple of weeks ago. It didn't survive. Apple will sell you a replacement for £139 which is what I ended up with. Hope you have more luck drying it out than I did.

ilovesprouts · 30/04/2010 20:27

yes use rice ive done it and my fone was ok ,but got a new one later on

thanks for the extra replies. I'm going to leave it in the airing cupboard for now and make do with some rubbish nokia phone (that i used to think was great until i discovered the iphone!!). I'll check my house insurance this morning and see if I'm covered there.
I haven't got the red light (yet) mummytosquidgies. Treetrunkthigs - £139 is better than the £400 odd that DH told me they go for these days.

I really miss it - how daft is that?
Note to self. If it's important enough to go in iphone, it's important enough to be written somewhere else too!!!!!!!

DS1 took his i-pod touch to the toilet - and it fell into the water. He was beside himself. DH put it into the airing cupboard for a week and it is still going strong now. I think he was very lucky.

DH borrowed my i-phone for a weekend when he was away and I must say I did miss it!

I hope yours can be rescued.

mckenzie · 02/05/2010 22:04

I hope I'm not speaking too soon as I haven't been able to actually make a call as I can't put the sim card back in yet (can't get it out of the dodgy old nokia without breaking a finger nail so I'll wait for DH!) but......................................
.........it's looking good The screen is fine, it's allowing me to use safari and access my contacts. Isn't it daft? I'm so happy just because I've got my iphone back. Should I be ashamed of myself?

Yay - happy days

I am a bit of DH as he is going to treat himself to the new I-Phone that is coming out in June. I have the 3GS and it is fab, but with the new one that comes out you can just switch from application to application.

mckenzie · 03/05/2010 08:20

the sim is back in and it works! it works!!

Dh thinks it's a shame as if it had died properly I could get a new one on the home insurance (this one is rather scratched) but I'll get a new one in a few months when my contract is up for renewal and I'm rather attached to this one. Especially now, after all we've been through .
