30 minutes helicopter ride or 60 min flying lesson

Got one of those activity vouchers for my birthday - dithering as to what to do. Never been in a helicopter. Would be fun to take controls in a plane, but presumably you don't actually get to do that much! Possibly see more from helicopter?

Anyone done one of these?

From someone who doesn't fly, I'd have thought you'd get more out of the 30 mins in the helicopter as most of the hour's flying would surely be on the ground?

Ponders · 21/04/2010 22:51

I don't trust helicopters

I'd go for the plane

helicopter! for sure
always wanted to go on a helicopter

luciemule · 21/04/2010 23:09

safety-wise, plane though.

harleyd · 21/04/2010 23:15

why would a plane be safer than a helicopter tho

luciemule · 22/04/2010 00:07

A plane is designed to glide without engines in an emergency. Dh is an aeronautical helicopter engineer and even he never goes in them unless he has no choice. His job enables him to ascertain whether a helicopter is safe to fly and yet, on 6 months op tour, he managed to get away with only flying in one once!

I've done a light aircraft flying lesson, and also had tourist flights in both light aircraft and helicopters. I enjoyed the lesson most (you only get the controls when you are safely up in the air obviously, but it's interesting and fun). Light aircraft tourist flights come next for me. Although I enjoyed the views from the helicopter, the helicopter itself left me cold.

But I have friends who love helicopters and get a buzz just from going up in one.

So I think it's quite personal! Which appeals more? If you were going to learn to fly one, which do you imagine yourself in?

Oh no, zombie thread!
Sorry, I have no idea how that happened!

RickiTarr · 06/06/2021 15:56

This thread is ELEVEN YEARS OLD @Nordicwannabe

I imagine she has forgotten she ever had a flight by now.

RickiTarr · 06/06/2021 15:56

X post.

Doing something unusual with advanced search?

ShagMeRiggins · 06/06/2021 16:01

Zombie or not, it’s an interesting choice to make. I enjoyed reading this and had hoped for more. Hope @Ladymuck enjoyed her experience, whichever one she chose.

Nordicwannabe · 06/06/2021 16:15

So sorry! No, I wasn't searching at all. Just paging through: might have clicked 'last' page instead of next?

Anyway... Yes, hope LadyMuck had fun, and we can all dream of post-covid adventures too Smile

Weird. Your browser must be haunted! Smile
