and yesterday afternoon he seemed well enough to go to school today. he has a bad cold, maybe even flu with temp up and down, coughing a lot, not being able to sleep well at night, and generally listless and very tired.

but yesterday afternoon he seemed lots better. this morning he is crying that his cough is still bad (it is) and that he cannot go to school (I know he did not sleep well at all last night because of the coughing).

So, should i send him in? Should i keep him off again seeing that it is the end of the week?

I don't want to send him back too soon but I also don't want him to take the proverbial! He does not have a raised temp anymore.

I am tending towards keeping him at home another day. there have been SO many children sick at his school.

Def right to keep him home.

Don't forget how tiring it is to be sick. Let him stay home and not just recover from the cold, but from the missed sleep from being up coughing. Missing a few days of reception is not going to ruin his educational career.
My ds gets sick A LOT (he's missed 5 weeks plus this school year) and I always try to keep him home one extra day after he's been ill, to make sure he has fully recovered, because every time I don't and send him straight back, he always comes down with something worse. Last year it was a cold that went into bronchitis and this winter it was a cold that went into a month long antibiotics defying sinus infection. And then he got a migraine (new thing for us) and I sent him back to early (1 day of being well was not enough) and he ended up with a 3 week long migraine.

thanks, everyone. poor ds, sofiaames. my DS's TA actually said that many parents were sending their children back to school too early and the school was having to ring the parents to come and collect the child.

i am not well either so if he feels anything like i do, yes, staying at home is the right thing to do.

i am a childminder and have one of his dear friends today. despite being under the weather, DS is managing to make a hell of a noise in his bed room.....
