Serious question - WHY would you pose in your pants (apart from to get some money!!) to show off your "fuller" figure?

I dont know if I am impressed with her confidence or shocked that she thinks we will want to see her overweight body?

Would YOU do it?

i saw that diet programme she made, she admitted herself how much she loved to eat. people don't think twice about having a go at smokers yet we all have to say fat people look wonderful

mosschops30 · 16/03/2010 16:13

Its not about attractiveness its about health, and yes before you say it skinny people can be very unhealthy, but I dont imagine all that weight is doing her heart any favours

UnquietDad · 16/03/2010 16:13

These slebs can't win, can they? Look at the bashing Nadine got for being too scrawny. Unless they are in some "perfect" narrow band of weight, they'll always be criticised - and mostly by other women. You are your own worst enemies sometimes...

FalafelAtYourFeet · 16/03/2010 16:14

Mugglewump- your legs would probably look as smooth as that if they were airbrushed though!

SpottyMuldoon · 16/03/2010 16:16

I'm her height and weigh not much less than her and I'm a 16/18.

southeastastra · 16/03/2010 16:16

there is some perfect narrrow band of weight though isn't there? it's the same for men.

bibbitybobbityhat · 16/03/2010 16:17

You make it sound like she's done something offensive. She's just out to sell her dvd and probably do another one. I don't think she weighs 15 stone though, more like about 13! But she can claim to have lost 6 stone or whatever in due course and sell more copies of the new dvd.

I don't find the sight of her in her swimmers grotesque or unpleasant at all. But I do wish celebs would just please stop doing it!

UnquietDad · 16/03/2010 16:17

Supposedly according to BMI, if you believe all that, but you can be big and healthy and you can also be slim and unhealthy. It depends what the rest of your lifestyle is like.

4andnotout · 16/03/2010 16:19

I'm a fatty yet have a perfectly clean bill of health, even the consultant I was referred to when I was pg commented that even though I have a high BMI I was as healthy as the next slim person. I have an active life and walk at least 2.5 miles a day as well as running up and down stairs all day. Fat doesn't always mean unhealthy glutton.

thedollshouse · 16/03/2010 16:22

southeastastra. It is normal for a new mum to look bloated and not at her best. I had terrible water retention with ds1 and at one point I actually put on a stone in one day! Although it had gone the next day.

Pregnancy does not suit me at all. I look hideous. I will look hideous after the birth too but will lose the weight pretty quickly because I am determined to do so. I found the pictures reassuring because it is nice to know that I am not the only one who won't be leaving the maternity unit wearing my size 8 jeans.

I'm not saying it is healthy to be that overweight in the long term but I think it is important to show new mums that you may not necessarily be at your best when you have just had a baby.

justallovertheplace · 16/03/2010 16:29

I don't think she's lying about her weight. I am 5 foot 7 and after each dc weighed just under 15 stone and was a size 18. It's not comfortable to carry that much extrqa weight, but it is just what my body does put on a lot of weight in pregnancy, hold onto it until I stop breastfeeding, and then it literally disappears. I am 9 stone 12 now and am horrified looking back at pictures of me from 6 months ago when I was that size. But good on her I say

southeastastra · 16/03/2010 16:30

yes sure, but claire has been here before hasn't she, before she had her second child.

she made a tv show about it. maybe she needs to step out of the limelight if she just wants to be known as a celebrity dieter. if she's happy being fat don't go on about releasing blinking dvds about losing weight.

bibbitybobbityhat · 16/03/2010 16:34

Does she really look 5 or 6 stone overweight? I'd say she's got 3 - 4 stone to lose.

thedollshouse · 16/03/2010 16:35

I don't think she is happy being fat. I know she said she is not in any rush to lose the weight but I doubt thats the case. She probably meant that it wasn't her top priority at the moment what with having a new baby and all.

I wish I could be that relaxed about it. As soon as I have had my baby I will be joining ww and my new wii fit is sat under my bed waiting for babies arrival.

I am like you justallovertheplace pregnancy just seems to make me pile on the pounds. Its one of the reasons why I won't be having a third child. Once I have lost the weight this time it will be staying off as being overweight affects my life in so many ways.

LaurieFairyCake · 16/03/2010 16:40

I too think she looks nice and she's pretty well covered up in that lovely red swimming costume.

Yes, she's overweight but her skin and how happy she looks make her look fabulous.

I'm pretty much her size and I also look fabulous (and according to dh sexy)

Nemofish · 16/03/2010 16:43

Just to lower the tone, I have to say that I would, erm, well, do it with her.

I used to be a size 18 post-baby, I am now a size 8. But I love cake and chocolate, that was my issue.

I think it's funny how some people are so disgusted by fat.

chopstheduck · 16/03/2010 16:45

seh def looks 15st to me, but a lot bigger than an 18. I was 15 3 when I started dieting a few months ago, and a size 18, but I'm 5'11! I didn't look as heavy as that neither.

I dont think she is lying abt her weight, but Id love to knwo how she gets into an 18!

I didn't actualyl feel that fat though, until I lost the weight, and it wasn't a concern for me for a long time, so I think she probably is being honest. It on;y after lsoing the weight, that I really realised how much fat I was carrying.

Ceebee74 · 16/03/2010 16:49

Chops I was exactly like you but I am only 5ft 8. I also weighed 15 1/2 stone following the birth of DS2 and was just in a size 18 (pushing a 20) but I don't think I looked as big as her (my weight was mainly round my tummy hence still looking like I was pg ). I have shifted 3 1/2 stone of it now and am a comfortable size 14 but look much much thinner than just dropping 2 dress sizes iyswim. Weight is a funny thing.....

Its all to do with height though isn't it? I'm shorter than Claire and if I looked like her I would be probably be wearing a size 14. In order for me to wear a size 18 I would have to be as big as Heather from Eastenders.

justallovertheplace · 16/03/2010 17:02

But cat it's not like she's fallen off the wagon she's just had a baby! I think it's good that she relaxed up on the diet and exercise while she was pregnant, she has done exactly what I did, put on lots of weight through pregnancy (NOT eating lots, it is literally pregnancy and less exercise due to crippling SPD) and then losing it all afterwards.

PandaEis · 16/03/2010 17:08

i think that she looks fabulous i have still got some of my baby weight to lose (cant really be called that 4 years on though even though it was gained whilst breastfeeding my DD) it has been a struggle to lose just one measly pound but i have shifted 24lb up to now (since new year)

it is ridiculous that there are people out there who critiscise overweight people no matter if it is a pound or 10 stone O/W just because one person is slim post preg/naturally or whatever it DOES NOT mean that it the case for everyone!! i try and not eat cakes and pies etc and basically hold back from having treats alot of the time and it is still a struggle to lose any weight!!

if she is baring the flesh to promote her new video/DVD fitness thing then more power to her. i know i would rather watch someone who actually has weight to lose, lose weight and have the same struggles that i do, than watch some stick thin celeb moaning about shifting that extra pound they gained doesnt do much for the self esteem that, funnily enough

Ozziegirly · 17/03/2010 02:45

She looks ok, but if she was 10 1/2 stone pre baby and is now 15 stone, presumably she was at least 15 1/2 at full term - 5 stone does seem rather a lot to put on in a pregnancy doesn't it?

I mean, I am 17 weeks pregnant and have put on 5 lbs so far and haven't been watching what I eat drastically, but surely I couldn't put on another 4 1/2 stone in 23 weeks???? or could I??

Mind you I am short so would look like a weeble.

ToccataAndFudge · 17/03/2010 03:11

Ozzie - I put on 5st when I was pg with DS1 (he wasn't a big baby either - 7 1/2lbs. Went from 7st to 12 stone.........was scary (and horrible to look at - 5ft tall and 12st does not a pleasant sight make ).

Didn't put on that much with other 2 pg's though (thankfully)

nowherewoman · 17/03/2010 10:37

So where do we draw the line about what's acceptable and who is offensive to the eye? Are older people allowed to wear swimsuits or bikinis in public? Or are we offended by their less than perfect bodies? What about ugly people or people with bad teeth, or bald people? Why do we allow this obsession with youth and thinness and perfection to make us think twice about what we can and can't do according to the "rules" Who decided anyway? And who is so bad-mannered that they think anyone else's appearance is something to be commented on?
