why have they buggered about with FB again and why can't I get just status updates on my home page?

Does anyone know how to get just recent status updates on the home page? The one I have now is all random, not in any chronological order, and still got stuff from yesterday on it.

if you go to friends on the left hand side and click, it should drop down with two options. Can't remember the first one, but the second is status updates.
