I was listening to the news on French radio. There was a tragic story about this young man who was pulled under a train by someone who wanted to commit suicide. Both men died.

A part from the fact it is awful and very , I was shocked when the brother said that he was abroad when it happened and he was sent a text telling him his brother had been killed (did not say if it was a relative or a friend who sent the message).

I cannot imagine texting someone with such sad news. If there is really no other way to contact someone would it not be preferable to send a text saying "please call us back as soon as you have a chance" And announce the death of a loved one a bit more gently that just a text? Am I oversensitive? Would you announce the loss of a loved one by text message?

my friend texted me to let me know her baby had died. We knew it was going to happen, and I think she couldn't face phoning me. I was out shopping with my sisters when I recieved it and I just ran out the shop crying.

I have a family member who is addicted to her phone and sends me texts about all sorts of inappropriate-for-text things. It makes me angry but in the end I cant control her actions. If its really serious I call her back.

However when I had an mmc n Nov 09 I sent the news by text to a lot of people - I simply couldn't face speaking to them face to face.

But no, to answer your question, I would definately NOT send a text for such bad news.
