So, what do you say when you think you're in for a hard time at a career review meeting?

Phrases to say and stuff NOT to say?!

I can be very direct but just have a feeling that I'm going to go to pieces when I speak to my boss and I really want to hold it together. (Been a bit stressed of late)

I'd focus on the future.
If (s)he says anything negative about past performance reply with a proposal for what you're going to do in the future.

an example:
Boss: over the past few months you've been crap at xyz
you: so in future you want me to focus more of my time/effort on xyz. yes I can do that

anything to avoid length discussions of negative stuff.

the future is bright...
