DS1 (10) would like to open a fb account as some of his friends have. However, we've met our first problem = just tried and are told that he is "ineligible". Any ideas why?

Thanks

According to this, he isn't old enough, he needs to be at least 13.

My daughter is 10, I wouldn't let her have her own FB account, she goes on club penguin to meet her friends, where its more strictly controlled. Not the same as FB, I know...

Hi Mary

Yes, we're dipping our feet in carefully. However, several of his friends have just opened accounts, and I figured it might be easier to monitor and go online with him now, whilst he's still smaller and persuadable, than when he's 13 and won't probably be so willing to show me everything that's being posted. It's welcome to the next phase of parenting, I guess.
