Horrible smacking comment on Facebook

Yeah, I know, Facebook.

But an acquaintance set her status to 'Can understand the temptation of the tree to an 18 month old but... would have thought all the smacks would put her off.. No chance...'

I just feel so at the thought of (repeatedly) smacking a toddler for playing with a Christmas tree and all her friends were agreeing with her. I commented, 'Smacking a toddler for looking at a Christmas tree sounds a bit harsh!'

To be honest, I don't really care if I don't talk again to this person and she lives a long way from me but should I have commented? It feels like something I can't stand back from. Thoughts?

Oh God, poor little kid asleep behind the gate

I think they post in order to 'confess' and get backup to make them feel better about doing a shite thing, tbh.

I haven't read the whole thread so I apologise if this is off at a tangent but....

....I have a 15 mth old and am DREADING putting my tree up. The odd tap to the hand to deter, I know, is wasted.

Any suggestions of keeping my little tyrant off the lovely sparkly magic-ness?

Boys2 - Get a tree platform as an earlier poster mentioned. Why create stress?

tearinghairout · 04/12/2009 22:58

Odd tap on the hand? What a waste of time - wise words from those who've said shove it up ont he table. And make sure there's nothing nearby that can be used to climb up!

To the OP - YANBU. Some people need telling.

Boys2, When DD was little I put my tree in the space between two armchairs and moved them so the tree was behind a "barrier" (does that make sense?)She kept her brother from touching it the first year he was toddling by grabbing him and carrying him to the other side of the room when he started pulling at it. It's a fun game!
