Quick answer needed...DS (3) wet himself and won't take his trousers off.

He wet himself on the way home (long walk) about an hour ago. I asked him to take his trousers and pants off while I Bfed DS2, and he refused. We've reached an impasse. I really don't want to back down on this (he's so blimmimg stubborn and if I give in it just rewards his stubbornness). On the other hand I'm feeling vicariously uncomfortable, and now I've finished bfing ds, it's easy for me to sort it out for him.

WWYD?

Also, I'm trying to avoid "punishments" for his stubbornness by just letting him live with the consequences (e.g. not getting dressed = getting chilly).

Did the last post make sense? I mean that the natural consequnce of refusing to take off wet trews is that he feels uncomfy....but it that too mean?

I would do it for him, he will get sore if he marinates in piss for too long.

While doing it I would talk to him about how he is a bigger boy now and really should be doing this for himself. I wouldn't punish him though.

Stinkyfeet · 13/11/2009 17:32

Yes, if he'll let you, then take them off for him. I'd make him put them in washing machine and go and fetch clean clothes himself though.

lavenderkate · 13/11/2009 17:33

He is 3.

Take his trousers off for him. Sorry but I do think youre being a bit mean.

Anything to do with toileting and those kind of accidents; tread very very carefully.
By making a big issue out of something like toileting can have long term problems.

But with regrds to his stubborness, your ideas seem good for every other area.

'make him fetch clean clothes'

DS2 much prefers running around naked from the waist down - if I want him in clean clothes, I would have to fetch them.

FlyMeToDunoon · 13/11/2009 17:41

Grapple him and remove trousers. Dress him in clean clothes. Simple. Move on. Some thing are more annoying for you to put up with than 3 year olds.

EyeOfFrogSpawnChorus · 13/11/2009 17:41

Trews are off.

Just to clarify, I never punish for toilet accidents. The issue was just his refusal to take his trousers off, which he's perfectly capable of.

aw poor little man

my nephew does this when he wets himself - i expect he's embarassed

no solution other than to be gentle with him

Stinkyfeet · 13/11/2009 17:42

Actually, you're right with that, purple, mine's the same - spends half the day completely naked

lavenderkate · 13/11/2009 17:49

Didnt assume you did Eyeof.

My DS3yrs is driving me nuts at the moment.

FlyMe - That's so very true He really is ludicrously stubborn though, and I've learnt to my cost that he will demonstrate his talent to the extreme if I give in to things, so I tend to pick my battles (in order to avoid stand-offs like this). I thought he might see reason over the soggy trews issue...Meh.

Oh and he's definitely not embarrassed btw, but he is wanting to be babied (side effect of newborn brother).

ShineOn - I probably would have done that in the first place, but DS2 needed feeding and I couldn't bend down to do it...and then it just sort of escalated
