'Another' farmville question. Ribbons, are they worth it?

do they just look pretty or do you get something out of them?

i really want to know if its worth saving all my gifts unitl I have 15 in order to earn a ribbon or should i use them all now?

your farmville friends get bonuses from your ribbons but i dunno abut anything else
