That's a hell of long time to be married, and to have 7 kids together as well! Makes me very sad actually. My Mum and Dad separated and divorced after 30 years together so I know exactly what its like. . .

never liked him.

Is it harder if your parents divorce late in life?

LauriefairycakeeatsCupid · 13/04/2009 20:23

I'm surprised she waited so long. He's a twonk.

I recollect Frankie Boyle:

"You know that film Braveheart, some people said Mel Gibson couldn't play a Scot. Now look at him, an alcoholic racist".

chocolepew · 13/04/2009 20:24

God I loved him in his younger days, before he went, erm, difficult.

I love Joaquin Phoenix and he's gone a bit 'diifficult' too, maybe it's me who's the scud ?

Tinker · 13/04/2009 20:28

What took her so long?

spicemonster · 13/04/2009 20:28

what a fucking hypocrite

spicemonster · 13/04/2009 20:29

Him I mean, not her, in case that wasn't clear

wintera · 13/04/2009 20:34

NKF - It depends. I was 14 when mine split and my Dad always says he couldn't have left when me or my sisters were little. My Dad was 52 and my Mum was 51 when they split. My Dad has re-married but my Mum hasn't. She sometimes says she wishes they had split sooner as she maybe would have met someone else but I'm not sure she would have. My Mum doesn't seem to be bothered about blokes at all now. She has got used to having the house to herself now and says she never wants to live with a fella ever again!

chocolepew - I agree, he was absolutely gorgeous in his younger days. I loved him in The year of living dangerously, Tim and Tequila Sunrise. He was a real stunner! He's gone quite odd now! But then again, I think its the booze that's his downfall.

I used to love him when he was younger. He hasn't aged well at all! I heard rumours of him having flings years and years ago.

chocolepew · 13/04/2009 20:51

sigh

KayHarker · 14/04/2009 14:28

I was so surprised, given that they're really strict traditionalist catholics. I mean, yeah, he's been dicking around for years, but divorce is still pretty enormous among that community.

georgimama · 16/04/2009 19:52

Apparently he said in an interview once that his wife was going to burn in hell but because he was a Catholic he would be OK. This may have been said in jest of course but I'm struggling to see the funny side.

He's an arse, Braveheart was one of the worst films I have ever seen, and he's apparently knobbing some Russian blonde younger than half his kids. Very unclassy.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 16/04/2009 20:00

The Passion of The Christ was terrible.

georgimama · 16/04/2009 20:01

I refused to pay good money to see that.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 16/04/2009 20:08

If anyone has to pay out the biggest divorce settlement in history, I'm so glad it's Mel.

KayHarker · 16/04/2009 21:12

Oh yes, that's right, I think his wife is Anglican.

How does his strict catholicism sit with him bonking russian 20 year olds whilst married with 7 kids? Or is just everyone else that has to stick by the rules? Ahh yes that'll be it.

MrsMattie · 16/04/2009 21:29

I know someone who knows him fairly well, actually, and says he is a thoroughly nasty man.

Always struck me as a twunt of epic proportions, and that was way before he started getting wasted and outing himself as an anti-semite.
