DisasterArea · 25/03/2009 18:50

DH said sacked.

OP posts:
belgo · 25/03/2009 18:51

says here he left at the end of january.

I'm sure I've read somewhere he's being treated for depression.

edam · 25/03/2009 18:51

hurrah! Nasty little bully who thinks he is SO important.

traceybath · 25/03/2009 18:51

is he not suffering from depression/mental health issues at the moment hence him not being involved?

GentleOtter · 25/03/2009 18:52

I think he has been hospitalised with bad depression.

edam · 25/03/2009 18:53

oh. Oops. In that case I hope he gets a lot better very soon and all that.

DisasterArea · 25/03/2009 18:54

poor bloke. insane, eccentric and very funny. i loved the romeo and juliet stagg beetles last year.

foxinsocks · 25/03/2009 18:55

oh no, I like Bill. Thought it might have been all his quips about tits but obviously not.

AnyFucker · 25/03/2009 18:55

I like him.

I reckon he is a misogynistic bugger though.

Macdog · 25/03/2009 18:55

He's been hospitalised with depression.
Chris Packham taking over

Gonna miss his jokes about kate's Great tits

foxinsocks · 25/03/2009 18:55

(lolol edam, have just read your posts and snorted my tea)

TheJester · 25/03/2009 18:56

Good. He's a miserable git. I used to live in Hampstead and kept walking past him. He never failed to scowl at me. Weirdo.

GentleOtter · 25/03/2009 18:56

News article

nickytwotimes · 25/03/2009 18:58

I like Bill.
The tension between him and Kate was Pinteresque at times. (Stewart Maconie's observation, not mine sadly)

Chris is nice, but I shall miss Bill's embarassing Uncle turn.

DisasterArea · 25/03/2009 18:58

i rather fancy chris packham

OP posts:
TheJester · 25/03/2009 18:59

Wow, loving his replacement!!!! Bet Kate H is happy too. Bill Oddie was apparently really hard work and grumpy to start off with and she had to "prove herself to him and win him over" before he treated her with respect as a colleague. Sounds a complete KNOB. Why should she have to earn his respect before he defrosted???? It was a children's tv programme, not a nasa project.

SOrry. I'll just never forget his evil looks.

nickytwotimes · 25/03/2009 19:02

Oh, I'm sure he might well be an arse, but I still liked him on telly.

Blu · 25/03/2009 19:03

I only saw one episode, and she (in the studio) said something like 'so could you tell us why the lesser spotted duckbill does that, Bill?' and he just said 'NO' in a very rude and grumpy way and left her with egg all over her face...it had clearly been planned that he would explain.

Sorry to hear that it is down to depression.

bran · 25/03/2009 19:06

Ohh, Chris Packham has aged well. I was a bit at the posters that fancy him, but I think I still picture him in my head as he was in his early years on TV. He's got a lot more rugged since judging by Macdog's link.

Nabster · 25/03/2009 19:07

I don't think he has been sacked.

He is ill and in hospital last I heard.

Niecie · 25/03/2009 19:13

I heard that he resigned ages ago, before he was in hospital.

I don't mind him and I don't think Kate does either. She has a bit of a love/hate relationship with him. He was very useful at tempering her over exuberance - she is just too jolly sometimes.

It isn't a children's programme though - not the full version on BBC2 in the evenings although it does have the Cbeebies Springwatch off shoot.

edam · 25/03/2009 20:36

fox - could you hear the sound of my wheels screetching as I backpedalled?

Poor man's mother was incarcerated in an ayslum for having what they now suspect might have been PND, IIRC. Was in an episode of Who Do You Think You Are.

foxinsocks · 25/03/2009 21:15

lolol edam

I didn't realise that about his mother, poor thing.

His depression must be really severe to be hospitalised. Blardy mental illnesses.

Ozziegirly · 26/03/2009 03:39

I love Chris Packham, he was my first ever crush. I explained to my Mum aged around 9 that I would marry him.

Then, when I was at Uni I saw him one day as I was parking. I was looking pretty good back then (preen) and it would have been the perfect excuse to introduce myself.

Instead I stared at him, stalkerishly, whilst whispering "Chris Packham" quietly under my breath.

Not my finest hour.
