What do you do if you find a lost toy/hat/glove etc in the street?

I always leave it there but maybe put it high up on a wall or on a fence post or something if it is a glove/hat cos I know when DS or I have lost things I've always retraced the route to see if I could find them. Once some nice person had picked up DS glove and put it on the wall for us so I've always done similar since.

Do people ever take them home and put an advert in local shops or the newspaper or anything?

Whenever we've lost something I've never even thought until now to see if anyone's placed a found advert anywhere.

No, I put on a wall/fence next to where it was found

like you, i retrace my steps

I put it on a fence railing.

If it looked like a very, very special toy and there were a storm imminent or something, I would take it home for safe-keeping and leave a note with my number both where I found it and on the local supermarket noticeboard.

I found a glove next to a perked car yesterday, and I tucked it into the car doorhandle. Afterwards, I thought that if it isn't their glove they'll think it's really strange!!

When son lost first beloved Kaloo, some kind soul had picked it up and placed it on top of a bin in the High Street. Found it when I retraced my steps and was SOOOO grateful! If I found something I would do the same or if bad weather, hand it into the closest shop/office in the hope that the owner would go in and ask...

I pick it up and put it on the wall or railing next to where it was -- I assume that if I'd lost something I'd retrace my steps and that other people will probably do the same.
