it's obscene

I don't really see it as obscene, tbh.

Well, Kylie's outfit was pretty awful, but other than that, what the hell.

Love Lily Allen's dress. Kylie's outfit is terrible

Is there a difference between that, and western countries celebrating Xmas (well, perhaps not this year, but generally) with all the consumerism, over indulgence etc, at the same time that people are starving in Africa?

ohIdoliketobebesidethe · 21/11/2008 12:23

We would get into a deep depression if rich people stopped spending. Trouble is that is what a lot of rich people do and the government were trying to think of ways of financially boosting people with a lower income who will be more likely to spend than save in this climate.

lucykate · 21/11/2008 12:27

surely £20m being spent on a party, where all the guests are, pretty wealthy themselves anyway (hardly in need of a slap up meal and a free break away are they?!) is obscene when there are people on this planet with no clean water.

I see where you're coming from, LucyKate, but still don't think there's a direct link between the two.

Many of the guests, Richard Branson springs to mind, already give plenty to charity.

jesuswhatnext · 21/11/2008 16:38

lucy, in a perfect world, you are of course right - the thing is, most of the people there are shoomzers of the first degree and do actually generate a lot of charity money - there will always be the 'have bugger alls' and the 'have too bloody much', just keep trying to part the latter from their money to give give to the former and sooner or later everyone may have the chance to drink clean water.

individual 'celebs' are not responsible for the poor of the world, governments are generally to blame for keeping people poor, down-trodden and ill educated.

Natalie Imbruglia looks AWFUL with blond hair

think I have a bit of a girl crush on LiLo

shitehawk · 21/11/2008 20:13

If they hadn't spent the money on a party, they still wouldn't have spent it on clean water in Africa. The two are not linked in any way - one is not caused by the other, nor is one cancelled out by the other.

asif · 21/11/2008 20:16

agree with the op, what a waste of money

AmIWhatAndWhy · 21/11/2008 20:24

Dubai in general is a different world.

A few things:

  1. Kylie's stage outfit - BLEUCH. Her other dress was nice though
  1. Tamara RaRa - nice colour dress
  1. It all looks sooooooo very plastic and artificial and man-made to such a grotesque degree and reminds me of the last days of sodom and gomorrah or something. It's almost like the epitomy of disgusting wealth and will end in the whole thing sliding into the sea and it'll rot on the sea bed for hundreds of years as a testimony of man's greed.

yes i think that about sums it up!
